Jesus Christ-- the Saviors Final Week.
Life is really hard.
There are ups. There are downs. There are parts that won't make you feel a thing-- and there are some parts that make you feel the highest of highs, but also, the lowest of lows. I guess that's the hard part about life. Life isn't consistent, it isn't always a straight line. Life is truly a windy ride.
As I sit here and think about the thing that gets me through feeling like this. Feeling sad for no apparent reason, feeling down and feeling a strong desire to cry.. I think about the thing that IS constant in my life. I think about the one thing that has made my life a weaving but very solid thick line. That one thing is my Savior Jesus Christ.
"In Gethsemane Jesus became us, each one of us, and we became him. Our sins were transferred to Jesus. His perfection was transferred to us."
I am reading a book called 'The Saviors Final Week' ---
"he chose to become man so that we could become like God." This phrase always sticks out to me. Jesus Christ was more than a simple Man. But he chose to come to earth, to be a Man, a mortal so that he may know what we have to endure as humans.
"Though he was God before he came to this earth... -- when he became a human being, he experienced by the flesh..."
"bled from every pore."
Brigham young makes a point that when Heavenly Father withdrew his spirit from Jesus Christ both in Gethsemane and on the Cross, that is what caused Christ to bleed from every pore. "If Jesus had the power of God upon him, he would not have sweat blood, but all was withdrawn from him and a veil was cast over him."
The purpose of Christ's suffering in Gethsemane was not only for sins, but in addition, he suffered for all sorrow, sickness, unfairness and injustice that we may feel in this life.
Hebrews 2: 13 "again i will put my trust in him....."
Jesus Christ is anxious to come to us, to help us.
Hebrews 4:15 "but was at all points, tempted...."
"The spirit of the most high, dwells among the afflicted, and he who has never broken his bread in tears, knows not the Heavenly powers."
Excruciating comes from the same root word that the word crucifixion comes from.
During the suffering of Christ-- he is plunged into spiritual death. (In Gethsemane and on the Cross) plunges him into the depths of Hell.
Mark 14: 36 --- Aba. Jesus Christ is crying out for his Heavenly Father. And yet Heavenly Father cannot and will not prevent or help his own son with the great suffering.
Heavenly Fathers spirit was completely taken from Jesus Christ in the garden, it returns when the Gethsemane experience subsides. As Jesus Christ is on the cross, his spirit was again withdrawn from the Savior. Which allows the victory to be completely Jesus Christ's. But Also, the withdrawn spirit was necessary to allow Jesus Christ to die. Jesus could not expire. "Heavenly Fathers spirit is life giving, life sustaining, so when Heavenly Father withdraws his spirit the last time on the cross, it is in a way, an act of mercy so that Jesus can finally will himself to die."
When all is accomplished Jesus Christ cries out "it is finished, thy will is done."
A great conclusion to the Savior Jesus Christ's life.
Why was the suffering something that had to take place?
"Knowing that he has perfect empathy because of his knowledge of our feelings and infirmities is helpful. But knowing he can replace our anguish with feelings of peace -- again, because of his substitutionary suffering-- is truly miraculous."
